Low Voltage Outdoor Lights

Many people will use various types of lights to illuminate the outside of their homes, gardens, and landscaped yards. They will use the various types of accent lights, wall lights, and so much more in the hopes that it will help to decorate the exterior of their home and provide them with a sense of security.

One problem that people have with them is the amount of energy that it will consume. However, all of this changed in the 1950’s when Bill Locklin – an electrical contractor – was asked to install outdoor lights for a client that he had. During this time the majority of the lights used outside were 120 volts and each of the fixtures that they bought had a hefty price tag.

Locklin came up with a way in which they could save money by using 12 volt fixtures using fruit juice cans, mayonnaise jars, and tractor headlamps as the lenses and powered them using a car battery. During the installation process Locklin had no idea that his client would be inviting some very important guests like President Eisenhower and his wife.

Both of them loved what he had done and requested the same thing to be used for their vacation retreat home. This helped to jump start Locklin’s new business – Nightscaping – which is still open to this day.

Low voltage outdoor lights can be purchased in every shape, style, and size. Accent lights, underwater lights, and flood lights are some of the more common types that people will use. Each will vary in price depending on how large they are and what style you choose. They can cost between $20 to $300.

These are great because they will save you money in so many ways. You will have the ability to light up your home with an affordable fixture and without having to spend $30 or more each month in electricity.
