How To Install Landscape Lighting
Now that you have chosen what type of landscape lights you wish to use around your yard you are ready to install them. Before you begin decide how you would like to have them running through the yard and consider any safety problems that might come up
Find the closest power outlet where you are installing the landscape lights. If the outlet is not GFCI than you need to replace it and install it. Position each of the landscape lights to where they need to stand. Connect them to ground spikes at the bottom of the lights and push them into the ground. The wires need to keep above the surface of the ground.
When they are all positioned you need to use the hand shovel in order to dig a trench to the length of the run. This should be at least six inches deep. Put the UF cable down in the trench and attach it to the wires for the light fixture that leads to the UF cable. Use the electrical tape to cover the end of the UF cable and keep it tight. When you have secured it, bury it in the dirt.
On the base of the backside of the transformer are two screw terminals. Split the UF cable into two wires that are three inches in length. Strip away ¾ inches of the insulation from each wire and secure one to each terminal using a screwdriver.
Place the transformer under an overhang (if you can) and close to the outlet. Open the cover of the transformer and set the clock to the right time. Use the colored tabs to show where the lights turn on and off.
All that is left is to plug the transformer in and wait till the time you set it for will turn them on. If you don’t want to wait press the manual test button to see how everything looks.
